As part of general road safety efforts and to raise driver awareness, the Grand Ducal Police conducted dedicated seat belt enforcement checks during the week of Monday 10 to Sunday 16 March 2025.
During this period, the police issued a total of 46 fines for seat belt violations. Specifically, 28 drivers were fined for not wearing their seat belts properly while driving (€145 and two points). In thirteen cases, fines of €145 were issued because driving licence applicants or adult passengers were not wearing seat belts. In four cases, drivers were fined for transporting minors who were not wearing seat belts properly (€145 and two points) and, in another case, it was found that a child was not, in accordance with the regulation, being transported in a child car seat (€145 and two points).
The police reiterated that failure to wear a seat belt constitutes a major risk in the event of an accident, hence the obligation to wear a seat belt even for short journeys.
