On Wednesday 12 March 2025, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, hosted a working meeting with Filippo Grandi, United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees, in Luxembourg.
As reported by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Minister Bettel and High Commissioner Grandi discussed the situation of refugees and internally displaced people, which continues to deteriorate following the increase in international conflicts and the negative effects of climate change. Minister Bettel emphasised Luxembourg's commitment and unwavering support for multilateralism and the United Nations system.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that Luxembourg supports the UN Refugee Agency through a multi-year core contribution, funding for specific crises such as Lebanon, South Sudan and Jordan, and for innovation projects.
