On Friday 7 February 2025, the Grand Ducal Police reported that the previous day judicial authorities seized a stone crusher machine containing a very large quantity of narcotics; initial analyses identified cocaine.

The police had informed the Luxembourg public prosecutor's office that such a crusher had just been delivered to the Grand Duchy and whose steamrollers were likely to hide narcotics. This machine was located in the north of the country. As this location is within the judicial district of Diekirch, Luxembourg's public prosecutor's office informed their colleagues in the corresponding public prosecutor's office.

This machine (of Colombian origin) was immediately seized by court order. When the seizure was carried out, it was found that two of the three steamrollers had already been dismantled. However, the people who had been working on these rollers had not managed to break them open. They ended up abandoning the rollers and the machine on site.

The authorities then had to call on the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) and the local fire brigade to have this machine transported to a secure location. The machine was then scanned to analyse the contents of the steamrollers. However, the result was inconclusive. It was therefore necessary to completely dismantle them and, using heavy equipment, it was finally possible to break the casing of the three steamrollers.

They were filled with packages, each package containing white powder. A drug-sniffing dog reacted positively.

The crusher, the steamrollers and the narcotics have been transferred and are now in a highly secure location. The investigating judge in Diekirch was notified and, thanks to the rapid and concerted action of the police, two people were arrested. Searches were carried out at the homes of these people.

At a press conference, Luxembourg's Minister of Interior Affairs, Léon Gloden, thanked all those involved in this investigation: the judicial authorities, the Grand Ducal Police, the Judicial Police Service, in particular the investigators from the “Organised Crime” and “Economic and Financial Crime” (anti-money laundering) departments, as well as the Special Unit, the Customs and Excise Administration, the CGDIS, the Financial Intelligence Unit and Europol. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to step up the fight against drug-related crime: “The fight against drugs is a priority for this government.

Given the scale of this case, the police confirmed that further information cannot be disclosed at this time.
