As of Wednesday 1 January 2025, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) has reported that its Senior Service taken on responsibility for providing the “Meals on Wheels” (“Repas sur Roues”) service, which had been managed since its launch on 1 April 1974 by the VdL Social Office.
As reported by the VdL, thanks to this service, citizens aged 65 and over, as well as people with a medical certificate, can have balanced meals delivered to their homes, which are adapted to the specific nutritional needs of the elderly.
Customers can now choose between two menus, including a classic menu and a vegetarian menu, with alternatives also available. In addition, it is possible to opt for meals with a modified texture, or to fit specific diets based on medical prescription. Each meal consists of a starter, a main course and a dessert. The price per menu is €15 and an order form is distributed weekly in paper format. Meals are delivered from Monday to Saturday between 09:00 and 11:30 (including public holidays) while Sunday's meal is delivered the day before.
The City of Luxembourg’s Senior Service department will take over this service, which complements the existing range of services currently provided for senior citizens. Interested persons are invited to contact the Senior Service or to fill out the registration form downloadable on the Senior Service website. A Senior Service agent will then contact the applicant to provide information on the terms of the service along with explanations relating to the contract to be signed.
Senior Service can be contacted by telephone on 4796-2470 or by email at repassurroues@vdl.lu. All information, as well as the registration request form, are available at seniors.vdl.lu.
