Jim Penning, a well known lawyer in the Grand Duchy for many years, passed away on Monday 4 November 2024 at the age of 82 years; he had been appointed the first Honorary Consul General of India to Luxembourg and he was also a co-founding member and Vice-President of the Indian Business Chamber of Luxembourg (IBCL).
On Wednesday 6 November, the IBCL released a statement acknowledging his contribution to the ties between India and Luxembourg. "Jim had served the Business Chamber as a Board Member for over fifteen years and upheld values of trust. We are thankful for his outstanding leadership, friendship, guidance and wisdom. His support within the Business Chamber and as well as his function as first Honorary Consul General of India to Luxembourg have greatly contributed to the development of the close relations between Luxembourg and India. His passing away leaves a void in our community. We will miss his enlightened opinion, his passion and his deep knowledge of the culture and history of India".
The cremation will take place on Saturday 9 November 2024 at 14:30 at the Merl / Belair cemetery.
