The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a number of violent incidents took place over the past weekend.

One such incident occurred on the evening of Friday 4 October 2024. The police received reports of an altercation in an apartment building on Rue des Martyrs in Rumelange, in which a person had been injured with a knife. On-site, the police officers found signs of a fight and several people arguing. It turned out there had been an argument beforehand in which, according to initial information, one person had stabbed another person and injured the latter's hand. Another person was also injured with a knife. The victims received emergency care by a second police patrol, which had since arrived, before being taken to hospital by the rescue services.

All those involved were taken to the police station. A knife and two brass knuckles were also confiscated and the initiator of the first knife attack was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor. The police forensic team was also on-site and further investigations were initiated.

In a similar but separate incident, the police were informed that two people had been stabbed and injured in Rue d'Audun in Esch-sur-Alzette at around 01:30 on Saturday 5 October 2024. Both victims were found and received first aid on-site before being taken to hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening, added the police.

A manhunt was initiated and two suspects were arrested shortly after the attack. According to initial information, the crime was preceded by a verbal argument between the two victims and the two suspects, with one of the suspects injuring the victims with a knife. The man was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and further investigations have been initiated.

Also during the night of Saturday 5 October, the police received reports of several people fighting and throwing bottles on Avenue Lucien Salentiny in Ettelbruck. On-site, the police officers encountered two men who were shouting loudly and insulting the officers. One of the men could be calmed down, but the other did not want to follow the officers' instructions, continued to insult them and began to run around on the street without regard for traffic. The police noted that, since he posed a danger to himself and others, they decided to place the "heavily intoxicated" man in custody. Since he still did not want to calm down and began to spit on the police car and kick the officers, he had to be detained. After a medical examination, he was placed in custody.
