Luxembourg's Ministry of State, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN) have confirmed that an unannounced zonal SMS alert test took place on Wednesday 25 September 2024.
The SMS went out on Wednesday in the municipalities of Diekirch, Erpeldange-sur-Sûre, Ettelbruck, Schieren and Colmar-Berg.
The authorities recalled that such tests are not communicated in advance, thus allowing mobile network operators to be put in a "real-life" situation facing an event triggering the imminent and spontaneous alert of the population.
Only people whose mobile phones were connected to a mobile phone base station in the above-mentioned areas at the time the alert was issued received the following SMS: "LU-Alert / Alerte test / No action required / Aucune action requise / Keine Handlung erforderlich".
These tests form part of the national alert system tests.
