The Grand Ducal Police has announced it carried out breathalyser tests on the night from Friday 7 to Saturday 8 June 2024 on the orders of the public prosecutor; additionally, several alcohol-related incidents were reported.
Following 82 mandatory breath tests between 23:00 and 00:30 on Friday night in Esch-sur-Alzette (Boulevard Charles de Gaulle), two drivers tested positive, leading to a report being drawn up in both cases; a driving licence confiscation occurred on the spot.
Another alcohol check was done between 01:30 and 04:00 in Foetz (between Rue du Brill and the Foetz/Mondercange exit of the A4 motorway). The police confirmed that a total of 96 drivers were tested. The result was positive in six cases, with five reports being issued and one chargeable warning. Four driving licences were confiscated on the spot. During the same check, one driver failed to provide valid insurance documentation, resulting in the immobilisation of the vehicle.
At around 11:30, the police received a report of a road accident near Differdange. However, one of the drivers involved fled the accident scene in his vehicle. The police was able to locate him shortly after. He was under the influence of alcohol, so his driving licence was confiscated and a report was drawn up.
At around 00:30, another vehicle was stopped near Sandweiler for driving erratically. The driver tested positive for alcohol and was issued a provisional driving ban. A report was drawn up.
At around 01:00, a collision occurred between a car and a bus on the N7 near Mersch, in which the driver was the sole occupant. The car’s driver tested positive for alcohol, leading to the confiscation of her driving licence. Both drivers were injured and taken to hospital.
At around 02:00, a person came to the Wiltz police station to make a complaint. However, as the individual was “visibly under the influence of alcohol”, an alcohol test was carried out, which was positive. The man then had to surrender his driving licence, the police noted.
Finally, another driving licence was confiscated in Beaufort at around 03:00 due to drink-driving.
