
The Grand Ducal Police has reported that three people were arrested in relation to shoplifting in Luxembourg-ville on Saturday.
According the the report, an employee of a cosmetics shop on Avenue de la Gare in Luxembourg reported that a shoplifting incident had occurred shortly beforehand, at around 13:00, and that the alleged perpetrator was behaving aggressively.
The police learnt that the alleged perpetrator stole several bottles of perfume. At a later point in time, it was discovered that another theft by a possible accomplice was being carried out at the same time.
When the accomplice was stopped by another police officer, a third person approached the two and wanted to appropriate the bag with the stolen goods. The police officers prevented this; however, both men defended themselves against both police officers. All four involved received minor injuries. During the melée, one of the men is understood to have stolen a security guard's watch.
After the three men were taken into custody by the police, a body search followed, during which more stolen goods were discovered.
The public prosecutor's office was informed and ordered the arrest of the three alleged shoplifters. The men were brought before a judge on Sunday morning.
