The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) has reported that it responded to a total of 76 fire-related incidents in Luxembourg in the first fifteen days of August 2022.
During this period, 24 separate fires were reported in fields, hedges and / or meadows and three forest fires were extinguished, one each in Beaufort, Harlange and Differdange. In addition, CGDIS reported six incidents of vegetation fires.
Three cars, one motorcycle and two tractors also caught fire in separate incidents. Ten fire incidents involving trash cans and garbage were also reported.
Except for Friday 5 August 2022, all other fourteen days had witnessed at least one fire incident. Tuesday 9 August was the busiest day with thirteen fire incidents attended to by CGDIS.
Luxembourg's weather portal, MeteoLux, issued three yellow weather warnings, which indicates "potential danger", in relation to high temperatures on 3, 9 and 10 August, while an orange weather warning ("danger") was issued on Thursday 4 August 2022, with maximum temperatures expected to reach up to 35°C.
According to the Meteolux, the monthly average temperature recorded by the Findel Airport meteorological station in July 2022 was 20.6 °C, i.e. 1.9 °C above the 1991-2020 average (18.7 °C). Monday 25 July 2022 recorded 36.3 °C, the hottest day in July 2022; however, this was still lower than the record of 39.0 °C recorded on 25 July 2019.
