Following the publication earlier this week of updated population statistics for the Grand Duchy by the national statistical office (Statec), Chronicle.lu has undertaken a series of analyses of the underlying data.
In addition to yesterday's article showing that 62,925 residents who are Luxembourg nationals also have a second nationality, we can now show that the number of non-Luxembourgish residents (who do not have Luxembourgish as a second nationality) outnumber the number of Luxembourgish residents who do not have a second nationality.
When preparing population statistical reports, Statec considers anyone with Luxembourgish nationality - whether holding a second nationality or not - as Luxembourgish. This consideration distorts the statistics somewhat, as the real number of non-Luxembourgish residents can be considered higher.
The actual figures show that 52.89% of residents have Luxembourgish nationality and 56.88% of residents have a nationality that is non-Luxembourgish. The overlapping 9.75% have both Luxembourgish nationality and at least one another nationality.
