On Saturday 22 January 2022, Ambulanz Wonsch a.s.b.l. was launched in prescence of H.E. Mr. Cees Bansema, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Luxembourg.

Ambulanz Wonsch’s mission, based on the principles of Dutch foundation “Stichting Ambulance Wens”, is to give people who are in end-of-life care and bedridden, the resources, specialist transport and medical care they need to fulfil their final wishes.

The service will be financed by donations and staffed by medically trained health care professional volunteers. The services will be free of charge.

Following the initial contact via online application form at www.ambulanzwonsch.lu, representatives from Ambulanz Wonsch will follow up in arranging every aspect of the last wishes.

The patient will decide the day and a qualified medical staff (an ambulance driver and a nurse) will accompany. A specially designed purpose-build ambulance equipped with soft mattress, pillows and a duvet will be provided for the transit. Two more people can join the patient in the ambulance. The patient will be accompanied to visit a place of personal significance, like to admire their own garden, or to go to that one meaningful place, or to be surrounded by their loved ones and pets.

Ambulanz Wonsch hopes to receive its own specialised ambulance in March 2022. Chronicle.lu reached out to the new organisation but they declined to give any financial figures at this time.

Ambulanz Wonsch looks forward to work in collaboration with the local social and care agencies.
