On Friday 7 January 2022, a motorist died in a multi-vehicle accident on the A1 motorway.
The accident happened at around 12:15 on the stretch of motorway between the Howald tunnel and the Croix de Gasperich, in the direction of Belgium.
According to the Grand Ducal Police, a truck collided with a number of vehicles that formed the end of a traffic jam.
A total of 5 vehicles were involved in the accident. A 48-year-old woman living in Luxembourg-ville died on the spot from her serious injuries. Another seriously injured person had to be rescued from their car and was taken to the hospital. 3 people suffered minor injuries.
The police forensic investigation team attended the site. An autopsy was requested on the body of the woman who died.
The section on the A1 remained closed to traffic until the evening, with a diversion set up for other road users.
