Several home burglaries were reported in Luxembourg over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, i.e. from Friday 24 December 2021 to Saturday 1 January 2022.
In total, 33 home burglaries or basement break-ins were reported in this holiday period, about 2.5-fold increase compared to only thirteen reported in the preceeding holiday period (24 December 2020 to 1 January 2021).
According to the Grand Ducal Police, the majority of break-ins were reported in and around Luxembourg-ville which also included cellar burglaries, as well. Outlying towns and villages also witnessed burglaries, specifically around Junglinster and Leudelange (to the north / east), Bridel, Strassen and Bertrange to the west, plus Roeser, Moutfort and Howald (to the south).
On the night of 1 January 2022, for instance, several items were stolen from a single-family house in Erpeldange, Wiltz. The unknown perpetrator(s) broke open a cellar door and gained access to the inside of the house. On the same night, a break-in into a family home was reported in Bridel. The perpetrators had broken open the patio door in order to gain access to the interior of the house, whereupon various valuables were stolen.
Police investigations were initiated in all cases.
Isolated cases of home burglaries also affected the bordering towns of Steinfort, Kahler and Petange in the west, and Tetange, Dudelange, Mondorf and Elvange in the south. In the north, houses in towns around Marnach, Hoscheid-Dickt and Erpeldange were targeted.
