The Nature- & Geopark Mullerthal (Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall) has confirmed that it is one step closer to joining the international network of UNESCO Global Geoparks.

After Mullerthal submitted its application to UNESCO in autumn 2020, two evaluators from the UNESCO Global Geoparks network were guided through the region from 21 to 23 October 2021. The programme included examples of sustainable regional development which have been and are being implemented by the various services of the Nature- & Geopark Mullerthal and its partners in the region. It also included different examples of the enhancement of geological, natural, cultural and intangible heritage.

At its meeting on 8 December 2021, the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council deliberated on the Nature- & Geopark Mullerthal's application and unanimously decided to recommend to the UNESCO Executive Committee to accept its application.

However, the region will have to wait for UNESCO's spring meeting in 2022, at which the Council’s favourable opinion will be approved.
