The Directorate of Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that Luxembourg received a total of 110 applications for international protection (asylum) last month.

The number of people applying for asylum in Luxembourg in November 2021 decreased from 150 the previous month and from 111 in November 2020.

A total of 114 decisions on asylum applications were taken last month, with 63 applicants (54 in October) being granted refugee status in Luxembourg.

So far this year, Luxembourg has received a total of 1,110 asylum applications, up from 1,019 received by this time last year, but down from the 1,889 received the year before that.

The largest number of applicants seeking asylum in November 2021 came from Syria (49), followed by Venezuela (eleven) and Eritrea (ten). In addition, six Afghan, six Ethiopian and six Iraqi nationals applied for asylum last month. The remaining 22 applications came from various other countries.

Of the 1,110 applications to date this year, 349 (31.4%) are from Syria, with 218 (19.6%) coming from Eritrea and 105 (9.5%) from Afghanistan.
