Luxembourg's Prison Administration has announced that a fire broke out yesterday evening at the Centre pénitentiaire de Luxembourg (CPL), otherwise known as Schrassig Prison.
According to the Prison Administration, an inmate set fire to his cell at around 21:45 on Monday. Prison officers detected and extinguished the fire.
The inmate was transferred to hospital for observation. None of the prison officers who were on site at the time of the incident suffered injuries.
The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) and the Grand Ducal Police, as well as the Deputy Director of the Prison Administration and the Director of Schrassig Prison were on the scene. The judicial police department is currently investigating the origin of the fire.
