On Friday 13 August 2021, shortly before midnight, a young man reported a mugging to the police.
The incident had happened in Luxembourg city centre when two people had initially engaged him in conversation, during which one of them put his arm over the victim's shoulder. Shortly afterwards, the victim found that his necklace had been stolen. Nobody was injured in the theft.
A short while afterwards, the two suspects were found by the police on Avenue Pescatore and were arrested. By order of the public prosecutor's office, the two people, who were minors, were placed in the Socio-Educational Centre in Dreiborn.
The Dreiborn institute is a secure facility used to imprison young offenders since late 2017: it can house up to 12 young residents at a time, for periods of up to three months which can be renewed by the judicial authorities.
