On Friday 13 August 2021, the Grand Ducal Police have reported that, at around 10:00 this morning, a machine being used for forestry work caught fire after an explosion.

The incident happened in a wooded area along rue de Gralingen at the exit of Merscheid near Pütscheid. The fire had been triggered by a buried explosive device, which was war ammunition from the Second World War. None of the workers involved were injured in the explosion or ensuing fire.

The workers immediately reported the incident and units of the fire brigade went to the scene to extinguish the fire. The Luxembourg army was also contacted for its ordnance disposal service to go to the scene, which it did to take care of the disposal of the detonated explosive device.
