Luxembourg's Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that the Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, and local elected officials from Bous and Waldbredimus have met with a view to a merger of the two municipalities.

On Thursday 20 May 2021, Minister Bofferding received the colleges of mayors and aldermen of Bous and Waldbredimus who wish to merge by 2023. Taina Bofferding spoke of a "positive moment in the merger process which will be hopefully successfully completed”. The minister said she was happy that the municipalities have approached the ministry for this purpose and added that it is essential to involve residents from the start of the merger process.

The elected representatives of Bous and Waldbredimus, as well as their communal secretaries, presented an inventory drawn up after the decision, in September 2018, to launch merger talks. The merger project is supposed to be presented to residents for the first time in July, through two information sessions, while the related referendum could take place in the spring of 2022.

Together, Bous and Waldbredimus would number a little less than 3,000 inhabitants.

The former rectory of Waldbredimus should house the future town hall of the merged municipality.

The merger would benefit from special state aid to the tune of some €6.5 million. Additionally, the government recently agreed to a 10% increase in the state subsidy.
