On Tuesday 23 February 2021, Henri Kox, Luxembourg's Minister of Internal Security, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Maurice Bauer, the Alderman responsible for social affairs in the City of Luxembourg, and representatives of the Grand Ducal Police met with staff of the prevention and mediation service “À vos côtés" (at your side) in Luxembourg-Gare in order to discuss with the coordinators and teams in the field.

After a stopover in the premises of the service and a discussion with the staff, Mayor Lydie Polfer noted: “From Monday to Saturday, three teams made up of two people roam the streets of the district and go to meet residents by acting as a mediator, where the need arises, by liaising with the Grand Ducal Police and the Streetwork services, which have been active for several years in the territory of the City. Following the positive experience in the Gare district, the extension of the service's scope of intervention in the Bonnevoie district will be submitted to the municipal council for a vote on Monday 1 March 2021".

Minister Henri Kox welcomed the visit which follows his visit to the Abrigado drug addiction centre the previous week. He stressed the importance of local social players in the fight against social distress and crime, adding that it is only in close collaboration with all the players concerned that the police can act. He reiterated the fact that the police are just one cog among others needed to guarantee better security.

Since 15 December 2020, the “À vos côtés” service, set up by the City of Luxembourg in collaboration with Inter-Actions, has helped ensure a visible presence in the Luxembourg-Gare district in order to reinforce the feeling of safety among residents.
