On Friday 30 October 2020, Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, confirmed that the new COVID-19 measures were adopted by the Chambre de Deputés (Luxembourg's Parliament) and came into effect at midnight on Friday.
The new restrictions include a curfew between 23:00 and 06:00, a reinforced obligation of the wearing of masks and a limitation of contacts to a minimum.
The government's cabinet has been meeting this week-end to draw up a series of contingency measures should the government need to move quickly to introduce new restrictions though parliament. Over the week-end, both Belgium and Austria, as well as the UK, have announced new lockdown restrictions.
It is hope that the new restrictions (see above) will bring down the number of new cases (COVID-19 infections), hospitalisations and fatalities; if not, the government will be under pressure to introduce new restrictions which could potentially involved the closing of certain business sectors again. The government may take such a decision as early as during this coming week.
