On the occasion of the public celebration of the birthday of the Grand Duke, an official ceremony took place today, Tuesday 23 June, at the Luxembourg National Solidarity Monument (Kanounenhi Lehen) - commonly known as the Eternal Flame - without the public and with physical distancing and wearing of masks enforced. 

It brought together the head of state, members of the government, members of parliament, representatives of the Ville de Luxembourg, the Council of State, the judiciary and the dean of the diplomatic corps accredited to the head of state, the Chief of Staff of the Luxembourg Army and the Director General of the Grand Ducal Police.

At 11:00, upon arrival at Bld F.D. Roosevelt, the Grand Duke was welcomed by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Fernand Etgen, by the Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, and by the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer.

during the official programme, the Grand Duke, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Fernand Etgen, and the Prime Minister, Minister of State, Xavier Bettel, all made speeches and music was provided by an ensemble of Military Music.

After the official ceremony, the traditional 21-gun salute took place from Fetschenhaff.
