Ten establishments in Luxembourg have been awarded the new hotel classification.
At a ceremony at the Chamber of Commerce on 30 January 2019, Luxembourg Minister of Tourism Lex Delles, President of Horesca Alain Rix and Secretary General of Horesca François Koepp awarded the hotel classification to ten hotels.
In effect in Luxembourg since April 2017, the classification system has proven successful with hoteliers. In less than two years, 63 institutions completed the classification process. The now-classified hotels represent 3,563 rooms, which is equivalent to almost half of the hotel capacity in Luxembourg. In addition, demand remains constant and the number of classified hotels is always increasing.
The classification of hotels in the Grand Duchy aims to offer a voluntary, modern and reliable system corresponding to the evolution of the tourist market and the customer expectations. The classification system was developed and implemented in close collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Horesca, the national federation of hoteliers, restaurateurs and coffee makers.
Developed by Hotelstars Union, this European system is based on a uniform classification of hotel establishments and based on guidelines and criteria common to the participating countries. Hotelstars Union, which now has 17 members, was created in 2009 under the auspices of Hotrec, which is the umbrella organization for all hotel, restaurant and café associations in Europe.
Through the official classification website, hoteliers can make inquiries, carry out a self-evaluation of their establishment and send their online request for classification. The establishments are then inspected by representatives of the Ministry and Horesca. The classification of a hotel is valid for a period of four years. It should also be noted that after a transitional phase of almost two years, the old Benelux classification is now obsolete.
