At Luxembourg’s first Cybersecurity Day, hosted in PwC’s premises in Gasperich, the Secretary of State for Economy, Francine Closener, announced the creation of a cybersecurity expertise centre in the Grand Duchy.
The centre, which will be launched in 2017, will be based in part on the knowledge, experience and skills attained by governmental initiatives such as CASES (the promotion of IT security in businesses) and CIRCL (post-incident coordination and action services).
By addressing both the private and public sector, the aforementioned initiatives have helped spread awareness regarding threats and vulnerabilities, identify and analyse risks and also, with the ways of dealing with IT attacks. CASES and CIRCL are coordinated by the national promotional platform for cybersecurity, SECURITYMADEIN.LU.
During her speech on Cybersecurity Day, Francine Closener confirmed the Ministry of Equality’s desire to share more of this existing knowledge and to promote the creation of synergies between key figures with the launch of this new body.
The objectives of the expertise centre are, in the short term, to increase Luxembourg’s competitive edge in the domain of cybersecurity, whilst its mid-term objective is to contribute to the development of emerging ecosystems in the sectors of “Internet of Things” (IoT), spatial technology, or FinTech, among others.
