At around 01:00 this morning, a security company contacted the Grand Ducal Police regarding the theft of copper rollers on the premises of an unidentified company in Schifflange.
An initial police patrol culminated in one of the perpetrators being arrested onsite, with his accomplice fleeing the scene. The vehicle of those involved was discovered, and the man was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor and brought before the investigating magistrate.
Copper represents one of the most commonly stolen metals, and is valued for its status as a raw material or commodity around the world. A rise in copper theft tends to coincide with international increases in scrap metal prices.
