The American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (AMCHAM) has announced that it is organising a joint Zoom event with the Luxembourg-American Chamber of Commerce (LACC) in New York on Wednesday 22 September 2021, from 18:00 to 19:00 (CET).

The event, entitled "The Business Community as Connoisseurs, How to Enter the Art Market", will look at how to make an informed decision when exploring the art market.

The notion of art as an investment has been fuelled by its relative resilience to crises such as financial crashes or the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent studies found that art (particularly works by contemporary artists) have outperformed traditional asset classes such as real estate or commodities by a two-digit number. Yet not all art is equal and whereas the market for top-tier artists knows no limits, the overwhelming majority of works will barely cover a taxi ride to the next auction house and dinner at a restaurant.

How do you then make an informed decision on the countless paintings, drawings, sculptures, books and works on paper offered for sale every day? What are the mechanisms of the art market and how do you navigate its ramifications of art fairs, galleries, and live sales? A small introduction including case studies will reveal both its pitfalls and opportunities at this upcoming event.

Speaker: Bob Dieschburg

A former staff member at the LACC, Bob Dieschburg entered the art world in 2018. After working in a gallery for contemporary art on the Lower East Side (NYC), he has led the research on a New York-based collection for MUDAM, the Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg. Specialising in rare books and works on paper, Bob then became the Managing Director of Arader Galleries in New York, before being appointed head librarian to the Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg in early 2021.
