On Wednesday morning, Ramborn launched its new Made-in-Luxembourg Ramborn Craft Cider at the Haum von Natur in Kockelscheuer, which is being launched to the public from 21:00.
A unique taste and new branding design, Director Carlo Hein stressed its position as a sustainable initiative within the circular economy as offering Green Jobs within the Agricultural Revolution, as explained more by Juliana Reichart who presented the results of a study she had carried out. The company is based in Mompach, to the east of the Grand Duchy, and has doubled to a team of six people. The company now harvest apples from 80+ orchards ranging geographically from the Moselle valley to the Sûre valley; the 2015 harvest was described as exceptional, leading to a quadrupling of its production in 2016 (500,000 kg of apples; it takes 2kg of apples for 1litre of cider).
Ramborn has developed a reputation for protecting rare apple varieties and has planted 120 trees within the past year; there are around 300 varieties of apples in Luxembourg. It takes 10-15 years for a tree to mature and produce fruit.
The new Ramborn range of bottles start at 0.33cl as well as the traditional 0.50 cl (both glass, fully recyclable), available in an easy-to-carry 12-pack crate. The three blends continue: CM Blend, Somerset Blend and Farmhouse, with alcoholic content starting at 5.8%.
As well as being available in certain cafés and restaurants, Ramborn Cider is also available at various drinks shops, at certain events (including Let'z Go Local and the forthcoming Spring Fair at LuxExpo), and now online at www.ramborn.com.
Ben's BBQ (foodtruck, normally found in the Airstream caravan at the Rotondes) produced a meal for those attending the launch event, all cooked in cider.
In addition, celebrity chef Anne Faber (of Anne's Kitchen) has created a special recipe of Roast Cider Chicken With Apple Sauce (in English & Luxembourgish).
