On Saturday 25 July 2026, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel made the second stop of his working visit to Southeast Asia in Singapore, during which he officially inaugurated the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Singapore.
According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the inauguration took place in the presence of Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan.
In his speech, Minister Bettel highlighted the close relationship between Luxembourg and Singapore, stating: "The partnership between Luxembourg and Singapore is built on shared values and common objectives. I am proud that today, with the opening of the Luxembourg Embassy in Singapore, we are taking our relationship to a new level. Together, we can go further, faster!"
While in Singapore, Minister Bettel also held bilateral meetings with Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
The discussions focused on bilateral relations and the potential for enhanced cooperation, now that Luxembourg has established a resident embassy in Singapore.
The talks also covered regional and international issues, particularly developments in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Ukraine.
During his visit, Minister Bettel also toured the premises that will house the Luxembourg Embassy in Singapore.
