The Luxembourg descendants' communities in America are organising a number of celebrations in August, with both the Luxembourg American Cultural Society (LACS) organising the 39th annual Luxembourg Fest in Wisconsin from 7 - 10 August 2025, and the Luxembourg Brotherhood of America organising the 88th annual Schobermesse (Schueberfouer) in Illinois on 3 August 2025; in addition, two events are being organised in Minneapolis in June.

Neighbouring Wisconsin and Illinois are in the mid-west of America, representing the final destination of where many Luxembourg emigrants arrived in the second part of the 19th century.

Sunday 3 Aug: 88th Schobermesse @ 12:30 - 17:00 in Chicago, Illinois

The 88th annual Schobermesse Festival AKA “Schueberfouer” is being held on Sunday 3 August 2025 at the Morton Grove Civic Center in Morton Grove, Illinois (just north of Chicago), with the support of Ansay International, importers of Luxembourgish products, as well as Bofferding and Domaines Vinsmoselle.

The afternoon event has free admission, with attendees asked to bring their own picnic, tables and chairs. No pets allowed.

Luxembourg sausage, hot dogs, chips, soft drinks are available for purchase (cash bar), with entertainment including live music by Devon DeLux, children's games and activities, the famous LBA Wheel of Meat and cash raffles.

Thursday 7 - Sunday 10 Aug: 39th Luxembourg Fest in Belgium, Wisconsin

The 39th annual Luxembourg Fest is being held in and around Belgium, Wisconsin, over four days, including a LACS Members' Social, a Cultural Forum (this year on Genealogy), a Luxembourg Under the Stars Gala Benefit (this year moved from its previous slot on the Saturday evening to the Friday evening), the Luxembourg Fest Main Street Parade and Fest Ground Activities on the Saturday, with the Fest Mass and Sheepshead Tournament on the Sunday, as follows:

Session 1: Finding and Reading Luxembourg Records by Jean Ensch: Jean will guide one through the resources available for 19th century Luxembourg, focusing on the structure and content of civil records. Jean will also provide key French and German genealogical vocabulary and tips for deciphering old German script, helping one navigate historical documents with confidence.

Session 2: Begin Researching Your Luxembourg Ancestors by Debby Warner Anderson: Follow Debby as she shares her journey to discover her Luxembourg ancestors. In this presentation, Debby will introduce basic genealogy techniques and practices to help one start one's own research. She will also offer guidance on where to find records and resources within the United States.

- Fri 8 Aug @ 18:00 at the Barn at Buechler Farm (new venue; one mile from LACS): Luxembourg Under the Stars Benefit (Ticketed Event). - 10:00 – 15:00: LACS Gift Shop Open (at the LACS Museum)

- 12:00 – 15:00: Sunday Sheepshead Tournament (back this year): Hour Long sessions starting at the top of each hour (12:00, 13:00, 14:00). Starting right after the Sunday Mass, join in for a fun-filled afternoon of exciting Sheepshead* played the traditional Luxembourg-American way. Enjoy the camaraderie with other avid and beginner sheepshead players alike. All skill levels are welcome to join. $2 entry fee per person, per session. Compete for prizes while playing this classic Luxembourg-American game. Registration for the tournament will take place on the day of the event.

* A Sheepshead tournament is a recreational card game competition using the American variation of the German game Schafkopf, also known as Sheepshead. It is a popular pastime, particularly in Wisconsin, and often involves a series of rounds, points and prizes.

The 40-minute documentary film "Luxembourg in America" - filmed during the 38th annual Luxembourg Fest in 2024 - will be screened on the Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, with director Geoff Thompson in attendance. Venue to be confirmed.

The LACS will be open with free admission from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 10 August, between 10:00 – 15:00.

Sunday 15 June: Luxembourg National Day in Minnesota, Minneapolis

The Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St Paul) in Minnesota are celebrating Luxembourg's National Day in Minneapolis with the Ambassador of Luxembourg to the United States, Nicole Bintner-Bakshian, and the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Minnesota, Kristin Speltz.

The event is being held on Sunday 15 June from 11:00 - 14:00 at France 44 Wines & Spirits (4351 France Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55410). Diaspora members and friends are welcome to join for a social gathering, at which light food and cake will be offered and a cash bar will be available. While attendance is frree, space is limited and prior reservation is required: places are based on a 'first come first reserved' basis (RSVP by 10 June 2025 via https://bit.ly/4kM3rqU).

Monday 23 June: Luxembourg National Day Picnic in Minnesota, Minneapolis

In addition, the Twin Cites Luxembourg American Society (TCLAS) is organising a 2025 Luxembourg National Day Picnic on Monday 23 June at 16:00 - 20:00 at Minnehaha Falls National Park. "Celebrate Luxembourg’s National Day with fellow Luxembourgers and Luxembourish Americans" at the TCLAS’ annual picnic, for a "super fun, super casual toast to the world’s awesomest Grand Duchy!" Those attending are invited to bring a dish to share at the potluck starting at about 17:30. The event will include a quick Luxembourg-themed pub-style trivia contest at 18:30, with prizes. A giant map of Luxembourg will be at the picnic again, following last year's success: attendees are invited to bring their Luxembourgish family names and locations to mark where their ancestors are from. This year, the organisers are aiming to make the picnic more fun for all ages with more child-friendly games and activities.
