On Monday 26 May 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Sport reported that, as part of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Andorra, Minister of Sport Georges Mischo participated in two high-level meetings: a meeting of sports ministers and a meeting of heads of state and/or government.
During the sports ministers' meeting, Minister Mischo reaffirmed Luxembourg's vision for sport that goes beyond mere competition. Citing the draft final declaration, he reiterated that "sport is a vector of well-being, respect, inclusion and social cohesion."
He highlighted the concrete commitments made by Luxembourg to promote a safe and respectful sporting environment. This includes, in particular, the ongoing transformation of the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency (ALAD) into an integrity unit that also addresses the fight against all forms of violence in sport. He also highlighted efforts to promote inclusion, with projects such as "I'mPOSSIBLE" and "50+1: Alle Zusammen - Inklusion im Sport", as well as events such as the "Nuit du Sport" and "BeActive Day", which aim to ensure equitable access to sport for all, regardless of age, origin or disability.
During the meeting of heads of state and/or government, Minister Mischo emphasised, on behalf of the Luxembourg government, the relevance of strengthened multilateral dialogue between small states. In a world marked by geopolitical crises and global challenges, he welcomed Andorra's initiative and emphasised that small countries can play a strategic and innovative role thanks to their agility, flexible governance and proximity to their citizens.
The Sport Minister reaffirmed Luxembourg's commitment to the rule of law, international cooperation and multilateralism, stating that "even as small states, we can conduct great diplomacy - provided we defend values, act together and demonstrate empathy."
The ministry concluded that these meetings helped strengthen ties between the small states of Europe and identify concrete avenues for collaboration. At the end of the two meetings, two declarations were adopted aimed at strengthening cooperation between states in sports and beyond.
