From Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 April 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, participated in the meetings of the Eurogroup and the informal Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Warsaw, Poland.

In a press release, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the finance ministers discussed economic developments and policy coordination in the euro area, during the Eurogroup meetings. The Eurogroup also analysed exchange rate and inflation developments, in preparation for the upcoming Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington DC. In doing so, the ministers drew on analyses from the European Commission and the European Central Bank.

At the informal ECOFIN meeting, ministers and central bank governors discussed the competitiveness of European financial markets, particularly within the framework of the Savings and Investment Union, as well as their role in supporting investment. Karin Keller-Sutter, President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Finance, and Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Finance of Norway, also attended the meeting.

The ministry added that given the current geopolitical context, Saturday's ECOFIN session provided an opportunity for finance ministers to discuss the financing of common European defence. Minister Roth commented: "In these uncertain times, Europe must demonstrate political unity and economic stability. It is important to find solutions together to strengthen the prosperity and security of its citizens."

Minister Roth also held a bilateral meeting with Karin Keller-Sutter.
