The Luxembourg Athletics Federation (Fédération Luxembourgeoise d'Athlétisme - FLA) has announced that four athletes have qualified to represent Luxembourg at the first-ever European Road Running Championships, scheduled to take place from Saturday 12 to Sunday 13 April 2025 in Brussels and Leuven (Belgium).

The qualified athletes from Luxembourg are: Sandra Lieners in the 10 km (Women); Ruben Querinjean in the 10 km (Men); Margaux Bruls in the Marathon; Anny Wolter in the Half Marathon.

34-year-old Sandra Lieners currently holds a personal best of 35:34 in the 10 km, which she set on 5 January 2025. In the same distance, 23-year-old Ruben Querinjean achieved his personal best of 28:25 at a competition in Lille, France a few weeks ago. Margaux Bruls, aged 24, recorded her marathon personal best of 2:56:27 on 1 December 2024 in Valencia, Spain. This new European championship will include individual and team titles across the marathon, half marathon and 10 km distances, offering increased medal opportunities. A distinctive feature of the event is the inclusion of amateur runners representing their countries, with national rankings based on the top 25 performances per nation.

According to the FLA, the competition is expected to attract over 30,000 runners, including 12,500 in the marathon, 10,000 in the half marathon and 7,500 in the 10 km.

Event Schedule:

- Saturday: Half Marathon at 10:00 – Start/Finish in Leuven;
