On Friday 21 March 2025, the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2025 will commence in Nanjing, China, with two athletes representing Luxembourg on the international stage.

Sprinter Patrizia van der Weken, who will compete in the 60m event, and middle-distance runner Charel Grethen, set to race in the 1500m, have successfully qualified for the World  Championships.

25-year-old Patrizia van der Weken qualified for the competition following her performance at the 2025 European Indoor Athletics Championships, where she set a new national record of 7.06 seconds and secured a historic first-ever medal (bronze) for Luxembourg at this level.

Last year, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, Patrizia van der Weken reached the final of the competition for the first time, finishing in seventh place with a time of 7.15 seconds.

Saturday 22 March 2025: Round 1 at 11:15 (04:15 Luxembourg time); Semi-Final at 20:15 (13:15 Luxembourg time); Final at 21:18 (14:18 Luxembourg time).

32-year-old Charel Grethen holds the Luxembourg national record in the 1500m short track, which he set in February 2024 with a time of 3:35.99. At the L'Anneau indoor athletics meet in Metz, France on Saturday 8 February 2025, he recorded a time of 3:37.90.

Charel Grethen’s only appearance at the World Athletics Indoor Championships to date was in 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia, where he did not advance to the final and finished in 21st place with a time of 3:44.87.
