Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade has reported that Xavier Bettel recently received the Order of the Star of Romania.

On Thursday 12 December 2024, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu awarded Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, the insignia of Grand Officer of the National Order of the Star of Romania.

With this distinction, Minister Bettel was honoured for his long-standing commitment to friendly relations between Luxembourg and Romania, both in his functions as Prime Minister )previously) and as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Minister Odobescu thanked Minister Bettel in particular for the support of the Luxembourg government for Romania's entry into the Schengen area.

In his speech, Minister Bettel highlighted the close relations between Luxembourg and Romania, based on common values ​​such as human rights and democratic principles. Luxembourg's Foreign Minister also discussed the difficult context in Eastern Europe in the face of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. In this context, he highlighted Luxembourg's support for Romania, in particular through the deployment of Luxembourg soldiers within the NATO multinational battalion in Cincu.
