EDF, the operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant across the border in France, has reported that Reactor 2 is back online after its scheduled shutdown for annual maintenance.
During the night of Tuesday 19 to Wednesday 20 November 2024, production unit no. 2 of the power plant was reconnected to the national electricity distribution grid.
During the scheduled shutdown, nearly 5,000 interventions were carried out, including maintenance and control activities: valve work, inspection of various components of the installation, cleaning of heat exchangers and examinations of steam generators. This shutdown also allowed a third of the reactor fuel to be renewed, in accordance with the normal operating cycle.
The four reactors at Cattenom are currently in operation and supplying the electricity grid.
