Médecins Sans Frontières Luxembourg has called for donations to support the people affected by the recent flooding in eastern Spain.

The Luxembourg section of the non-profit organisation confirmed that a medical and logistics team from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been present in the flood-hit areas in Valencia since this past weekend.

"We are working with those responsible for the health response. We are particularly concerned about the situation of the populations still isolated, as well as access to medicines and medical care for the most vulnerable and chronically ill people," said Pascale Coissard, MSF emergency coordinator. "MSF is not used to responding to emergencies in Spain because the country has the capacity and resources to do so, but given the scale of the disaster and our experience as a humanitarian medical organisation, we hope to be able to help."

MSF expressed its "support and solidarity" with the victims of this natural disaster. The non-profit recalled that its emergency fund allows it to "respond quickly to immediate needs in emergency contexts", such as the floods in the Valencia region. More than 85% of the money goes directly to the field and MSF is audited each year by an independent and approved organisation, it added.

Donations can be made directly to MSF Spain, which is in charge of the response, via their website https://www.msf.es/que-puedo-hacer-yo/donativo.
