EDF, the operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant in France, has reported that Reactor 2 was shut down in order to be reloaded during the night of Friday 4 October to Saturday 5 October 2024.

This is the last scheduled shutdown of the plant for 2024, lasting approximately one month, and forming part of its annual maintenance programme.

On this occasion, EDF added that its teams, accompanied by more than 60 industrial partners will carry out more than 4,000 maintenance and inspection activities such as valve work, visits to various components of the installation, cleaning of heat exchangers and television examinations of steam generators. The shutdown will also allow one-third of the fuel contained in the reactor to be renewed as planned in the normal operating cycle.

EDF confirmed that the Reactors 1, 3 and 4 at the Cattenom nuclear power plant are currently in operation and supplying the electricity network.
