On Tuesday 10 September 2024, Luxembourg's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, participated in the informal meeting of EU agriculture ministers in Budapest, Hungary.

As reported by Luxembourg's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, the meeting focused on defining the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2027.

Discussions looked at developing a sustainable, competitive and farmer-friendly agricultural policy in the face of the growing challenges faced by European farmers, such as climate change, high input costs and market disruptions. The meeting, led by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, aimed to guide future policies in order to reconcile environmental objectives with the economic viability of the agricultural sector.

Minister Hansen said: "It is essential, in my view, that food production remains at the heart of our concerns. To ensure that food continues to be produced in Europe, it is essential that future administrative simplifications are concrete and truly noticeable for farmers."
