Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel participated in the European Political Community meeting and the informal meeting of heads of state or government of the European Union in Granada, Spain on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 October 2023.
The first day began with an opening session in plenary format bringing together the members of the European Political Community present in Grenada. Speakers included Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, among others.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Bettel participated in a round table dedicated to multilateralism (including security and geostrategic concerns). During this exchange, he stressed the need to maintain an open and constructive dialogue, which was ultimately the objective of establishing this forum. He continued by stipulating that instead of talking about each other, leaders should talk to each other, directly.
The day ended with an official dinner in the localities of the Alhambra palace and fortress complex, in the presence of the King and Queen of Spain.
During the informal meeting of EU heads of state or government on Friday, the 27 leaders discussed the future strategic agenda of the European Union, enlargement and the absorption capacity of the EU, as well as migration and crises in the EU's neighbourhood.
