The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs within Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that the Grand Duchy is contributing €600,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support people in Morocco and Libya.

Following the earthquake which struck Morocco on 8 September 2023 and Storm Daniel which hit Libya on 10 September 2023, Luxembourg is making a contribution of €600,000 to the IFRC in response to its emergency appeals for the affected populations in these two countries.

Through this contribution, the Grand Duchy will support the IFRC in the provision of essential and basic assistance and health and care assistance, including water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as protection and prevention services to 700,000 affected people in Morocco and Libya.

Currently, according to the IFRC, 6.6 million people in Morocco have been affected or put at risk by the earthquake, while 1.6 million people in Libya have been affected or put at risk by Storm Daniel.
