Luxembourg's Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Franz Fayot, went on a working visit to Cape Verde on Tuesday 7 March 2023.
During this visit, Minister Fayot co-chaired the 22nd Partnership Commission between Luxembourg and Cape Verde, together with Rui Figueiredo Soares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration of Cape Verde. The Cape Verdean Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro, also participated in the commission.
The Partnership Commission coincided with the 30th anniversary of the first general cooperation agreement signing this year. The commission provided an opportunity to take stock of the state of development concerning the Luxembourg Development Cooperation and the progress of the Indicative Cooperation Programme (ICP) dedicated to "Development-Climate-Energy" (DCE), including the latest developments in the field of employment and employability, energy transition, water and sanitation, local development and climate action.
The ICP DCE is implemented jointly with Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning and is based on a whole-of-government approach, both in its financing and in its strategic steering.
In Praia, Minister Fayot also held meetings with the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, and Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, during which Minister Fayot and his interlocutors welcomed the strong ties of friendship between Luxembourg and Cape Verde. They acknowledged the significant progress in cooperation that has been achieved over the past 30 years.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the first general cooperation agreement, Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva presented Minister Fayot with a decoration for the Luxembourg government, dedicated to the Luxembourg Development Cooperation.
Lastly, Minister Fayot participated in the launch of the project "Form@Empresa", financed by the Luxembourg Development Cooperation and implemented by the International Labour Organization, and which, according to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, aims to promote access to decent and good quality jobs in Cape Verde.
