The Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action of Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has confirmed that the Grand Duchy will continue to support cooperation efforts in Afghanistan following recent events there in which the Taliban has taken control of the country.

Following such recent events in Afghanistan, Luxembourg Cooperation is maintaining its long-standing commitment and remains alongside the Afghan population and especially women and girls. The interventions of Luxembourg Cooperation are currently being reassessed by its implementing partners on site, in order to determine their feasibility and their short- and medium-term viability in this new context. As much as possible, support will be maintained, while ensuring that it reaches the poorest populations and that any direct or indirect link with the Taliban is excluded.

In 2021, Luxembourg has funded projects to the tune of €2.35 million in Afghanistan, notably in the field of humanitarian aid. Between 2001 and 2020, Luxembourg Cooperation spent a total of €48 million in Afghanistan, through UN agencies and international NGOs.
