Details:
Celebrated on 6 December, Saint Nicholas Day (Kleeserchersdag) is a particularly special tradition for children in Luxembourg - primary schoolchildren even get the day off for the occasion.
In the run-up to Saint Nicholas Day, children put their slippers outside their bedroom doors before going to sleep. On the morning of 6 December, well-behaved children will wake up to presents left by the Kleeschen; if they have misbehaved, they will find a twig (Rutt), courtesy of the Houseker, Saint Nicholas' fear-inspiring companion. The Kleeschen also visits children in schools ahead of the holiday.
A traditional Kleeserchersdag / pre-Christmas (breakfast) snack is man-shaped brioche bread called Boxemännchen.
