Details:

The 8th edition of the Luxembourg Art Week, Luxembourg's international contemporary art fair, will take place at the Glacis (Fouerplaatz) from 11 to 13 November 2022 in a purpose-built temporary construction.

Luxembourg Art Week 2022 will bring together 80 galleries, artists' collectives and institutions across three sections: Main Section (49); Take Off, the prospective section (25); and Solo, the discovery section showcasing the work of an artist via a dedicated project (six).

For this edition, the jury was keen to expand the geographical scope of the galleries represented while continuing to improve the quality of the works on offer. 30 new exhibitors are thus joining the fair. The presence of new galleries such as Gandy Gallery (Bratislava) and Victor Lope Arte Contemporaneo (Barcelona) furthermore allows their respective countries to be represented for the first time at the fair. All sections combined, Luxembourg Art Week now covers no less than fourteen countries and five continents (85% of foreign exhibitors). At the same time, the fair remains committed to its local roots via the participation of numerous regional galleries and artists' associations.

This year, the fair is again marked by groundbreaking collaborations with Casino Luxembourg – Forum d'art contemporain. Adrien Vescovi (b. 1981), whose solo show at Casino Luxembourg coincides with the fair (01.10.2022 – 29.01.2022), will unveil a new installation curated by Stilbé Schroeder. Conceived and composed like paintings, the works of the young French visual artist interact with their environment: in nature, they literally soak up the natural elements and bad weather, while indoors, they are arranged so as to enter in a dialogue with the surrounding architecture. Vescovi's work reexamines painterly questions such as the unframed canvas and painting at architectural or natural scale from a contemporary viewpoint.

His installation will dialogue with a series of suspended sculptural compositions in the aisles of the fair created by the young florist Kathlyn Wohl (Infiiorata, above), which will contribute to the fair's trademark convivial atmosphere.

As in previous years, visitors will be able to attend conferences that will assess the positive impact of art from a societal, environmental and / or architectural perspective. A conference organised in collaboration with the Order of Architects and Engineers (OAI) will examine ways to improve the integration of artworks in architecture and public spaces and boost their potential as sustainable levers for added value. The second conference, held at Mudam's auditorium, will address new forms of corporate engagement with current social, environmental and societal issues by means of cultural events, sponsorship programmes and targeted artistic projects.

A series of debates on lifelong training for artists, the development of a culture of debate and the promotion of Luxembourg artists internationally will be organised in collaboration with Kultur | lx Arts Council Luxembourg. In addition, a conference organised by the Luxembourg Association for Art Galleries and Practitioners (LAFA) will survey the current art market and allow local art lovers
and collectors to stay informed about recent developments and the impact of Millenials artists and collectors on the latter, while an experimental artistic research laboratory at Casino Display will focus on the young curatorial scene in Luxembourg and the issues and questions that motivate their work.

For the first time, the Ministry of Culture will award a special prize to a Luxembourgish artist for their lifelong achievement. The award ceremony will be one of the highlights of the opening of the fair.

Finally, a curated space within the Take Off section will allow both artists and the general public to familiarise with the functioning, production and collection of NFTs (Non-fungible tokens), a technology that has been rapidly gaining ground in recent times. In keeping with these efforts to familiarise audiences with the new technologies that are infiltrating the art world, a "Real Doll" from the series Repräsentantinnen (Representatives) by Louisa Clement, a German artist in residence at Casino Luxembourg since May, will be present at the fair. Fitted with an artificial intelligence that allows it to communicate and learn, this replica of the artist develops in contact with visitors, who are invited to discuss with the avatar and meet its creator during an Artist Talk at Casino.
