On Thursday 20 November 2025, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) unveiled its “Winterlights” festival programme, which is taking place from Friday 21 November 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026.

The LCTO, in collaboration with the City of Luxembourg (VdL) and several partners in the capital, has put together a varied programme aiming to guide visitors through the Christmas markets, diverse leisure activities, musical moments, temporary exhibitions, theatre performances, shopping experiences and other cultural and tourist attractions.

According to the LCTO, a visit to the Bock and Pétrusse casemates is a “must” during “Winterlights”, as these ancient fortifications offer an insight into Luxembourg’s history. Panoramic views, light installations and sound effects transform the underground galleries into an “impressive experience”.

For the festival period, the LCTO is offering a special winter rate for the Pétrusse Casemates: from 15 November 2025 to 15 January 2026, visitors can benefit from a 30% reduction on the entry price.

On Saint Nicholas Day (6 December), families are invited to meet Saint Nicholas (Kleeschen) in the city centre between 14:00 and 17:00, receive personalised tips for exploring the capital and enjoy a small sweet treat for children.

In addition to regular guided tours, the LCTO is offering night-time tours every Friday during Advent in a festive atmosphere, allowing the city to be seen under its Christmas lights. The “Winterlights by Night” tours will take place at 17:30 on the following Fridays: 21 November, 5 December and 2 January in English; 28 November and 12 December in French; and 19 December in German.

Visitors can also discover Luxembourg City privately, with the option to book a personal guide for a customised tour. Groups of one to 20 people may choose from the thematic catalogue or create their own itinerary. Guides speak around 20 languages and adapt to individual needs.

From Monday 1 to Wednesday 24 December 2025, the LCTO will run an online Advent calendar with a daily competition. Participants have an opportunity to win many prizes offered by partners from the city’s 24 districts, including gastronomy, culture and entertainment.

Throughout the festival, the Christmas markets at Place d’Armes, Place de la Constitution, Place de Paris, Place Émile Hamilius and Kinnikswiss will once again offer enchanting Christmas worlds. “Winterkids” and the “Advent Calendar House” will be located on Place Guillaume II. At the markets, visitors can enjoy handcrafted gift items, culinary specialities, light installations, children’s activities and various winter attractions. The Christmas markets are closed only on Thursday 25 December 2025 (Christmas Day).

The “Winterlights” festival aims to promote cultural togetherness, support local trade and celebrate the magic of winter in all its forms, according to the LCTO.
