The Directorate of Defence and the Luxembourg Armed Forces have announced that they are organising a new edition of the Luxembourg Defence Open Air Days at Luxembourg Airport in Findel on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2024, from 10:00 to 17:00.

The public is invited to discover Luxembourg's air component during this event. Registration is mandatory and the registration link will be publicly available from Monday 2 September 2024.

Programme

The following aircraft will be on display:

  • Airbus A400M - a transport aircraft belonging to the Belgian-Luxembourg binational fleet;
  • Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) - strategic transport, air-to-air refuelling and medical evacuation aircraft of the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF), composed of six participating nations (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands and Luxembourg);
  • Lockheed F-16 - fighter aircraft of the Belgian Air Component for aerial protection of BeNeLux;
  • Beechcraft BE350 ISR - maritime reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft, contracted with DEA Aviation and currently operating as part of the IRINI mission, securing the Mediterranean under European Union mandate;
  • Airbus H145M - light multi-role helicopter of the Luxembourg Army, equipped and made available to the Grand Ducal Police for police surveillance and search missions;
  • Insitu Integrator - Short Range Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems (SRTUAS) tactical reconnaissance and surveillance drone of the Luxembourg Army;
  • SIAI-Marchetti SF260 trainer - Belgian Air Component aircraft used for training Luxembourg and Belgian pilots;
  • Learjet 45 - from Luxembourg Air Rescue, contracted by the Directorate of Defence for medical evacuation missions;
  • Piper L-18C - historic aircraft used by the Luxembourg Armed Forces between 1957 and 1967 for observation missions and mail delivery flights.

Experts and military personnel operating these aircraft will be on-site to answer technical or practical questions from the public. There will also be experts on-site who can provide information about possible careers and training programmes in the aviation sector.

The event will be held in a restricted area of Luxembourg-Findel Airport. This area is only accessible by a shuttle bus, which will run continuously between the Parking DuPont de Nemours and the event venue.

The number of people allowed on the site is limited. It is therefore necessary to indicate a time slot when registering. Access to the site and the shuttle bus is only possible during this time slot.
