The Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg held its Chinese New Year Celebrations in Luxembourg-Ville on Saturday 27 January 2024.

Adults and children alike gathered in front of Galeries Lafayette on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Dragon.

These colourful celebrations included various stands and cultural activities (e.g. calligraphy workshops) and a festive dragon parade through the city centre. Visitors could also enjoy traditional Chinese New Year dumplings throughout the afternoon.

The Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer, was among those to make an appearance on this festive occasion.

For the dragon parade, the Confucius Institute teamed up with the Paris-based Association Française de Danse du Dragon et Lion Chinois (AFDDLC), which brings together a team of Chinese martial arts specialists from across Europe.

The celebrations were organised in collaboration with the Union Commerciale de la Ville de Luxembourg (UCVL) and Galeries Lafayette Luxembourg.

This year's Chinese / Lunar New Year will officially begin on Saturday 10 February, with 2024 being the Year of the Dragon.
