The Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg’s parliament) recently presented the results of the 2023 POLINDEX (political observatory) survey.
POLINDEX is a sociological study carried out by the Research Chair in Parliamentary Studies of the University of Luxembourg and commissioned by the Chamber of Deputies. It aims to establish a political and social state of Luxembourg, from the execution of an annual survey by ILRES SA in a comparative perspective to other European democracies.
Building on the past experience of five-year electoral studies carried out for nearly 20 years by the University of Luxembourg, POLINDEX now aims to report on an annual, non-partisan and scientific basis, on any changes in individual and collective values (and their consequences for social cohesion and political legitimacy) of Luxembourgish and foreign voters in the Grand Duchy.
According to the survey, published on 14 July 2023, housing was the main issue that voters believed politicians should address. Also on this list were the issues of demographic and economic development, inflation and purchasing power, climate change, the war in Ukraine and the political inclusion of foreign citizens.
The study was based on interviews with 1,000 voters with Luxembourgish nationality and 500 foreign citizens. The questions were reportedly made comparable to similar surveys carried out in Europe.
