The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) donated eight ambulances to the Ukrainian emergency services on Thursday afternoon.

Almost ten months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the CGDIS responded to the call of LUkraine asbl to mobilise emergency vehicles for Ukraine.

The CGDIS firefighters have thus made eight ambulances available to their Ukrainian counterparts. These vehicles have recently been withdrawn from the operational circuit following the delivery of new generation vehicles. Teams from the CGDIS logistics resources department have carried out a series of internal works and reviews to guarantee the functionality and safety of these vehicles, which have also been provided with first aid equipment.

The official handover of the keys to these emergency vehicles took place on Thursday 15 December 2022 at the National Fire and Rescue Centre (Centre national d'incendie et de secours - CNIS) in Cloche d'Or, in the presence of Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs, Taina Bofferding, the Mayor of Luxembourg City and Chair of the CNIS Board of Directors, Lydie Polfer, CGDIS General Director Paul Schroeder, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Ukrainian Embassy in Belgium, Natalia Anoshyna, Luxembourg's Honorary Consul to Ukraine, Claude Radoux, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg, Anne Calteux, and representatives of LUkraine asbl.

This donation is in addition to equipment already made available by Luxembourg and sent to Ukraine as part of international efforts to help the Ukrainian population.

The eight donated ambulances will depart in a first convoy of seventeen rescue vehicles for Ukraine on Wednesday 21 December 2022, along with other vehicles mobilised as part of LUkraine asbl's global fundraising campaign "Ukraine is calling".
